Drawing in London Parks and Gardens:
Learning to draw can be challenging and unnerving especially as an adult when you might not have put pencil to paper since school days. Then there are the expectations we put on ourselves to create ’great art’ straight away. Also there are those annoying people who come and stand behind you whilst drawing who can be very distracting!
I teach students to relax in order to focus on what’s important in the landscape.
Through a series of drawing exercises we can out fox those expectations, enable you to focus on what’s important and what stands out from the scene. I encourage starting out with an approach free of restrictions and rules in order to situate yourself in the landscape and not to stifle creative self expression. The task of drawing a tree, a vista or building is broken down into manageable sections.
It’s important to take time to be in the landscape and to learn how to look first at what attracts you. Then to explore how to build bridges between what you see and how your imagination acts on it. To discover what really interests you, learn the basics and gradually develop your own style.
